Climate Action at the 2026 Travelers Annual Shareholder Meeting
Join us Wednesday, May 20th at 8AM for a climate action outside the Travelers Insurance annual shareholder meeting. RSVP & more details Here.
CCAG, alongside many climate finance advocates, have been leading the charge to pressure property and casualty insurers to end their underwriting and investments in fossil fuels.
Despite years of pressure from financial professionals and climate advocates, companies like Travelers have refused to adopt real climate policies.
In 2024, Travelers had $1.9 billion invested in high-emitting companies.
Increasing insurance rates and reducing insurance coverage in high-risk markets transfers the financial burden of climate change to policyholders, investors, and taxpayers.
This year there is a shareholder resolution being heard that would require Travelers to disclose their risk associated with climate-related pricing and coverage decisions.
We are 99.99% sure this resolution will fail, and we will be there to call it out when it does.
When companies refuse to take real climate action, even when their investors insist on it, it lands on us to make sure these companies are held accountable for the climate damage they fuel.
At 8:00 AM we will meet outside the Marriott Hotel in downtown Hartford to hand out flyers to shareholders and employees as they enter the meeting. This action will go until 9:00 AM, when the meeting starts.
Insurance is all about risk, and the riskiest thing they can do is turn their back on the climate crisis.
Let’s make sure they Insure OUR future, not fossil fuels. RSVP Today!
Session Ends on May 6th! Call your senator now to vote YES on HB 5340
This bill will expand access to solar power and help stabilize ratepayer costs. It includes clean and affordable energy that cuts pollution, strong residential solar programs, plug-in solar and real ways to lower our energy bills. This bill passed the House last week which is a huge victory and is now on to the Senate.
The key message around this bill is to keep solar moving forward, and to get rid of caps.Reach out to your Senator to make sure they vote YES on solar!
Call your Senator today - find them here - and tell them to vote YES on HB 5001 for democracy and YES on HB 5340 for solar!

4/22 Make Polluters Pay Advocacy Day
Join Sierra Club Connecticut, CCAG, and Sunrise New Haven this Earth Day for a powerful day of action at the Connecticut State Capitol. On April 22nd from 12:00 – 2:00 PM, we’re coming together to call on lawmakers to hold polluters accountable and support Make Polluters Pay Legislation.
We’ll be advocating for:
H.B. 5156– An Act Concerning a Climate Change Superfund, which would require major fossil fuel companies to pay for the climate damages they’ve caused.
S.B. 453 – An Act Concerning a Climate Change Related Surcharge on Certain Insurance Policies, which would create a surcharge on fossil fuel-related facilities to help address the growing costs of climate impacts.
Throughout the event, participants will take part in letter writing and direct outreach to legislators, urging them to support these “Make Polluters Pay” bills. Register Here!
Climate change is costing Connecticut taxpayers millions every year, and the bill keeps growing. From floods to fires, from crop losses to rising seas, our communities are being left to clean up the damage while Big Oil and Gas companies rake in record profits. That’s not fair—and it’s time for change.
In Connecticut alone, the price tag of climate destruction is staggering. Sign the petition & view more info here. New York and Vermont have already passed versions of the Climate Superfund and 15 states are following the effort this year. Now is the time for Connecticut to follow the momentum.
The concept of the Climate Superfund is simple: the biggest fossil fuel companies that do business in our state pay into a fund in proportion to the amount of damage they have caused. This fund supports climate resilience and disaster recovery projects. These corporations knew decades ago that burning fossil fuels would lead to catastrophic climate change. Instead of warning the public, they lied, delayed action, and profited while our communities have been left to foot the bill.
Thank you to all who attended the Speak Out to Support Environmental Legislation Webinar on 2/23!
Thank you to the Interreligious Eco-Justice Network (IREJN) for hosting this special webinar where we learned or brushed up on how to lend our voices to the effort to pass critical environmental legislation in our state.
The event featured IREJN Executive Director Terri Eickel and other advocates; the agenda included discussion of solar permitting, the Climate Superfund and other topics.
Join the CCAG email list or stay tuned to this page for updates and actions to take as we move through the 2026 legislative session.
JOIN US AT THE FORUM WITH CLIMATE ADVOCATES! JAN 22
Insurance industry lobbyists are mobilizing in force to stop Insuring CT’s Resiliency Policy. We need climate advocates there too. Show up Thurs Jan 22, 9am, LOB Room 2B (Hartford).RSVP here
Property & Casualty insurer's role in the climate crisis has gone overlooked for long enough. It is time to hold the industry accountable and make polluters pay.
We have a massive opportunity to introduce a bill this session called the "Insuring Connecticut's Resiliency Policy."
This policy would create a crucial revenue stream from a 5% surcharge placed on insurance policies of any existing or new fossil fuel infrastructures in Connecticut. These funds would be dedicated to climate resiliency projects in the state such as public awareness campaigns, flood risk data dissemination, construction of climate resilient infrastructure, etc.
We have a number of experts who will be testifying in favor of this policy including Amy Chester of Rebuild By Design, Sharon Lewis and CT based EJ activists and former insurance professional, Charles Slidders of CIEL and Carly Fabian of Public Citizen.
We are now hearing that the insurance industry, who has SIGNIFICANT power in CT politics, is organizing against this bill.
We need to make sure we out-organize them, and have as many people as possible in the room for the forum!!
In the Connecticut Climate world, activists are putting together “A Defiant Act of Joy”. Folkswill gather on the weekend of September 20th - 21st to celebrate the power of the sun in a series of events called “Sun Day”.
These events will be happening nationwide, and will celebrate the growing adoption of wind and solar power and other renewable energy sources, and the possibility of making clean energy an even bigger part of our lives.
There will be almost a dozen local events happening all over Connecticut on Saturday (9/20) and then on Sunday (9/21) we will all convene at Connecticut Central State University (CCSU) from 12-4pm for a Sun Day Festival! There will be games, prizes, vendors and all the climate action opportunities you ever wanted.
Take a Stand Against the Brookfield Fracked Gas Compressor Station Expansion!
The proposed expansion of the fracked gas compressor station in Brookfield, CT, is a direct threat to our community’s health and safety. Here’s why we need your voice:
Proximity to Schools and Homes: The expanded facility would be located just 1,900 feet from a middle school, putting children at risk of exposure to harmful emissions. Families living nearby would face increased air pollution, raising concerns about respiratory issues and other health risks.
Environmental Impact: The compressor station expansion would significantly increase greenhouse gas emissions at a time when Connecticut should be leading on climate action. Allowing more fracked gas infrastructure contradicts our state’s commitment to reducing our carbon footprint and protecting future generations.
Corporate Interests Over Community Needs: The corporations behind this expansion, TC Energy and Berkshire Hathaway, are prioritizing profits over the well-being of our neighbors. It’s up to us to hold them accountable and demand that our state leaders prioritize community health and a sustainable future.
Make Your Voice Heard: The comments period has now been extended to Sept. 16th
Send your message to DEEP Air Pollution Control Engineer James Grillo today to, urge them to deny the permit for this harmful expansion. A personalized message can make an even greater impact—take a moment to share why protecting Brookfield matters to you and your family. The comments period deadline is September 16th. Click here to take action!
Whether you live nearby or simply care about Connecticut’s environmental future, your story can make a difference. Let’s show our state leaders that Connecticut stands united against more fossil fuel infrastructure and for a healthier, more sustainable future for all.
Time is Running Out for Clean Energy Tax Credits
Trump’s disastrous budget law, (HR1) is eliminating tax credits for electric vehicles, residential solar, and home energy efficiency. This has forced important incentives years earlier than planned, cutting off support for households facing increasing energy bills.
Most of these important credits will expire in September and December of this year, so it’s important to act now to see what you might be eligible for.
Visit the DEEP website for August 2025 press release here.
Thank you to everyone who attended the Expose Wells Fargo National Day of Action on 8/15
Wells Fargo just became the single worst bank on climate change in the country.Connecticut is fighting back!
On August 15, we took action in Connecticut and across the country at Wells Fargo locations to expose their exploitative practices. They’ve backtracked on climate commitments, undermined workers rights, schemed to privatize USPS, and engaged in roll back of DEI initiatives and a history of discriminatory lending.
We’ve had enough - it’s time to hold Wells Fargo accountable. Hands off the planet, hands off workers, hands off our communities!
If you haven't already done so, you can still send a message to top Wells Fargo officials here.

Connecticut’s Key Industry must be held accountable for their role in climate disasters
CT companies like The Hartford, Travelers and WR Berkley all have significant investments and underwriting policies in climate destroying fossil fuel projects.
The carbon pollution from these projects lead to a warmer planet, exacerbating climate conditions that lead to deadly wildfires, hurricanes, floods and other climate-related devastation.
There are common sense solutions that can mitigate these deadly consequences but these continue to fall on the greedy, deaf ears of the insurance industry, fossil fuel projects and too many decision makers.
As “the insurance capitol of the world”, Connecticut’s key industry should be one of the guiding lights in the rebuilding of devastated communities - after all, that is what property and casualty insurance is for.
Unfortunately, victims in California have seen their homeowners insurance revoked.
Our State Treasurer, Erik Russell, is responsible for public investment management. His office manages where $50 billion gets invested and can influence corporate behavior as an investor.
Send a message to Treasurer Russell and tell him Connecticut must make both fiscally and ethically - smart investments, and to call out Connecticut insurers for their gross negligence.
Stop the Expansion of Fracked Gas Pipelines in Connecticut.
Environmental groups across the state are urging Governor Ned Lamont and DEEP Chairman Katie Dykes to keep CT’s climate promise, stand up for a clean energy future, and reject the permit for the Brookfield compressor station expansion & Project Maple (a fracked gas pipeline expansion).
It is urgent that we stop the fracked gas compressor station expansion proposed for Brookfield, CT. The corporations that own the facility, TC Energy & Berkshire Hathaway, want to more than double the size of the facility. One of the most concerning things about this proposal is that the compressor station is located just 1900 feet away from the town's middle school. The final permit for the expansion in Brookfield is being reviewed right now by the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP).
There are also many concerns around Enbridge's Project Maple, a proposed fracked gas pipeline extension from New Jersey to Rhode Island, running across Connecticut. Enbridge says new capacity is needed to keep up with demand. One major concern is leaking gas, which can lead to a range of health issues, from respiratory diseases to cancer.
This pipeline threatens the health of our environment, communities, and the financial wellbeing of all Connecticut residents. Fracked gas infrastructure increases energy costs, strains household budgets, and further exacerbates our slow progress toward meeting Connecticut’s climate and carbon goals. Visit ccag.net to take action. Clean energy must be a priority!
We need to put gas in the past, and invest in clean energy instead of more gas pipelines. Our energy bills, our air, and our climate are all at risk when we increase our dependence on fossil fuels. Connecticut residents deserve affordable energy bills and a healthier climate.
Rally for Climate Action & Affordable Energy Feb. 11TH - 3PM
Thank you to everyone who joined the stop Project Maple Coalition at the Eversource corporate headquarters to protest unaffordable rate increases, harmful to low income customers, and the continued expansion of fossil fuels.
Watch this page for updates!
In Massachusetts, Eversource publicly stated that they offered a bid on the expanded gas from Project Maple. In Connecticut, Eversource is the monopolistic electric utility for most of the state and also provides gas to many towns. Connecticut relies primarily on fossil fuels for both electricity and home heating, which raises rates, creates air pollution and destroys the climate. There are grave concerns about the continued increase in use of fossil gas and the possible purchase of additional gas from Project Maple in Connecticut.
We will rallied to call out the role of our utility companies, especially Eversource, in the promotion and expansion of fossil fuels, as well as how they have consistently taken advantage of low income ratepayers. R
Electric Rate Shock - Two Critical Actions to Take NOW!
Republican leaders and utility companies are spreading lies about the cause of skyrocketing energy bills - and throwing clean energy under the bus.
Here are the facts: In 2017, mostly Republican lawmakers caved to pressure from Dominion and voted to give it a sweetheart deal on power generated by the Millstone nuclear plant.
Morerecently, two PURA commissioners voted to recoup associated costs in just 10 months instead of 3 years. Your voice is needed! Please take both of the following actions now!
Tell PURA Commissioners Betkoski and Caron to reverse their decision to recoup costs over a 10 month period and adopt Chairperson Marissa Gillett's recommendation that costs be spread out over three years. Let Commissioners Betkoski and Caron know we are sick and tired of energy corporations driving up our costs. Click here to send your message.
Leadership Fails to Address Climate in Special Session
Thank you to everyone who contacted Governor Lamont House Speaker Matt Ritter & Senate President Pro Tempore Martin Looney agree to encouraged them to include climate in the special session this summer.
Unfortunately leadership failed again to address this issue.
Many Connecticut residents are already facing health and financial burdens from the impacts of climate change—effective climate policies cannot wait until 2025. This past session, a number of feasible bills on climate change were blocked by inaction and scientifically illiterate rhetoric.
Now we must keep up the pressure to make sure this happens before the end of the year. Stay tuned for updates on how we can get this done.
Thank you to everyone who joined us to hold Travelers Insurance Company accountable on May 15th!
On May 15th, CCAG and Third Act CT activists attended the Travelers Insurance Company stockholder meeting in Hartford.
Travelers is one of the top fossil fuel insurers in the world. From inside the meeting, we presented our list of demands including that they stop insuring fossil fuel projects.
Over the summer, we will continue to pressure these companies. If fossil fuel projects aren't insured or underwritten, they can't exist. CCAG and Insure Our Future continue to work to hold insurance companies accountable for climate destruction. The Connecticut legislature failed to pass any regulatory policies for insurance companies in our state that invest in and underwrite fossil fuels this year.
Once again, we find we must take this issue into our own hands and directly to the insurance companies. Stay tuned for more actions coming soon. Be sure to join our email list for updates on this issue.
For questions or comments contact Helen Humphreys at: [email protected]
CCAG, in partnership with our friends and allies, continue to make important advances in the fight against climate change. Coalitions include: This page is being updated- stay tuned.
The Insure Our Future campaign is a part of an international coalition called “Stop the Money Pipeline” coalition, which is over 200 organizations strong.
Connecticut is a leader on climate action, yet our insurance industry is failing to take the action necessary to avoid climate catastrophe. Instead, the top insurers in our state are investing billions in fossil fuels, and insuring an untold number of fossil fuel projects. Through the Insure Our Future campaign & Stop the Money Pipeline, we are putting public pressure on decision makers at insurance companies to eliminate investments in fossil fuel projects, and instead focus on the movement towards a global transition to a low carbon economy.
Together, in Connectictut, we've led actions against Travelers, WR Berkley and The Hartford, which all currently have billion-dollar policies with fossil fuel companies, such as coal and tar sands plants. Because of actions and support of members like yourself, the insurance industry is listening and we are winning on this issue.
